Lady sings in blue - Billie Holiday

Billie Holiday Portrait

Detail of final illustration.
Complete composition.
A visual summary of the whole design process.  First, a indian ink drawing was developed to study shadows tones. Second, the design of the illustration edges was made using pencil. Third, the pencil drawing was translated into vectorial paths.  Fourth, many colours studies were carried out.  Finally, the idea of using only blue tones came to my mind.
The first step was to find photographies of Billie Holiday for reference purposes.
The singer liked to wear flowers on her head, so a visual research was made on this subject.
